Punched Double Gatefold - Technique Thursday

Thank you for stopping by my blog today. Today's technique revolves around a fold and a punch.
SUPPLIES:
Card - Whisper White and Pretty in Pink
Simply Scored
Big Shot - Textured Impressions Folder - Lacy Brocade
Punch - Full Heart
Adhesive - Snail, Glue Dots and Sticky Strip
Basic Jewels - Pearl
Ribbon - Pretty in Pink Stitched Grosgrain

METHOD:
Cut Whisper White card to 6" x 11 3/4"
Using your Simply Scored, score at 1 7/8"; 3 7/8"; 7 7/8" and 9 7/8"
Fold the card from right to left - mountain fold, valley fold, valley fold and mountain fold
Cut Pretty in Pink card 5 3/4" x 3 3/4" and 2 pieces at 1 3/4" x 5 3/4"
Adhere the larger piece to the centre inside of the card and the 2 smaller pieces to the fronts of the card
Cut Whisper White 1 1/2" x 5 1/2" and emboss using the Big Shot and the Lacy Brocade Textured Impressions Folder. Try and line them up so the embossing is the same for each side.
Punch a heart in Pretty in Pink and emboss using the same folder
Adhere the embossed Whisper White pieces to the fronts of the card
Fold fronts closed and starting from the base push the punch up as far as it will go.

Line up the centre marks of the punch with the fold in the card and punch half the heart.

Repeat on the other side. The texture of the Whisper White may catch a little in the punch, so just wiggle gently until it slides up where it is supposed to go.

Place a pearl in the centre of the Pretty in Pink embossed punched heart.

Place Dimensionals on the back of the heart and adhere to the centre of the card.

Make a belly band for the card using a piece of Whisper White cut to 9" x 3/4" (this was actually a strip left over from previous cutting for the card). Score at 2 1/2" and 6 1/2". Adhere the ribbon to the centre of the belly band with a bit of Snail.

Add sticky strip to either end of the bally band and stick the 2 ends together. Make a bow from the same ribbon and use a Glue Dot to adhere to centre front of belly band. Add a pearl to the centre of the bow.

Your card is completed. It's a nice easy fold technique that could be adapted for any occasion.

I hope you have a play with this technique.

Beautiful Butterflies meet Flowering Flourishes - Tuesday Tutorial

Have you ever had an idea in your head about a card and even a mental picture of what it should look like? Well that's what happened with this card. However, it hasn't turned out anything like the mental picture. As I say to many: "There's never any mistakes or errors or even disasters, only creations." (OK, some disasters can't be retrieved but may be able to be used for something else as every bit of card has 2 sides)
SUPPLIES:
Big Shot - Beautiful Butterflies Bigz die and Top Note die
Stamps - Flowering Flourishes
Card - Crumb Cake; Very Vanilla and Pretty in Pink
Punch - Bird builder punch
Ink - Versamark; and Illuminate Glimmer Watermark Stampin' Pad
Embossing Powder - Clear
Other - heat tool; Piercing Tool and Mat; Scorer; Antique Brad; Basic Jewels - Pearls; Embossing Buddy
Adhesive - Tombow Multipurpose; Snail and Glue Dots

METHOD:
Use Crumb Cake as your card base
Rub the card front over with the Embossing Buddy
Choose your stamp and ink it up in the Illuminate Glimmer Watermark Stampin' Pad and stamp all over the card front and heat set.
Ink up a different stamp from the set and using Versamark ink, stamp intermittently on the front of the card.
Cover the card front in Clear Embossing Powder, shake off excess and heat set. (Now I realised when I did this that the Illuminate Glimmer Watermark ink hadn't heat set enough and it picked up the embossing powder too).
Put this to one side
Use your Big Shot and cut a Top Note piece using Very Vanilla; then use the Beautiful Butterflies die and cut 1 butterfly in Very Vanilla and a smaller butterfly in Pretty in Pink
Use your piercing tool and mat to poke a hole through both butterflies and the Very Vanilla Top Note piece.

Cut the lace (about 5") and fold it like an upside down 'V' and ensure the brad goes through the lace as well as the butterflies.

Then push the brad legs through the Top Note piece and secure.

Punch some leaves and branches out using the Bird Punch
Use your mat and scoring tool to leave a 'vein' on the leaves (sorry about the poor photo).
Use the Tombow to adhere the leaves and the stems, where desired under the butterflies.
Adhere the Top Note embellishment piece where desired.
I've purposely made mine off centre to show up the embossed stamp effect.

Well that's it for another Tuesday Tutorial and I've already made the card and taken the photos for Thursdays Technique Tutorial. I hope you pop back then.

Free Tutorial and Technique

Well, what a week. My apologies for not posting this week, it's been very busy in one way or another. So I have one card to share with you that's a free tutorial encompassing a technique. I'm planning next week to be back to normal - whatever that is!!!

MONOCHROMATIC CARD

I'm in a card group that participates in swaps. One of the swaps for this month was to make a monochromatic card and you could include white.
Monochromatic colours are all the colours (tints, tones, and shades) of a single hue.
Monochromatic colour schemes are derived from a single base hue, and extended using its shades, tones and tints (that is, a hue modified by the addition of black, grey (black + white) and white. As a result, the energy is more subtle and peaceful due to a lack of contrast of hue.

My card uses just the one colour - Pretty in Pink
SUPPLIES:
Card - Pretty in Pink
Big Shot - Frameliits - Labels Collection
              -  Textured Impressions Folders - Delicate Designs; Perfect Polka Dots and Fancy Fan
Punches - Butterflies x 2
Basic Jewels - Pearls
Adhesive - Snail, Dimensionals
Snips and Trimmer

METHOD:
You need just 1 x A4 sheet of Pretty in Pink. Cut it down to A5 for your card base and put to one side.
Now cut a piece to layer onto the front, I usually take 1cm off the length and width of the card front measurement.
Now you need to put this inside the Fancy Fan folder, landscape fashion and run it through the Big Shot.
Now line up the Delicate Designs folder so that the top or line matches the bottom of the Fancy Fan. Run it through the Big Shot.
Trim the scallop edge with snips
Place adhesive on the back and layer it on the front of the card base.
Using the left over card, place the Labels Framelits on the card and run through the Big Shot.
Take the smaller of the 2 labels and run it through the Big Shot inside the Perfect Polka Dots folder.
Adhere the smaller Label (the Perfect Polka Dot piece) to the larger Label with Snail.
Adhere both this layer to the from of the card using Dimensionals.
You should have enough scraps to punch out 2 Butterflies. Adhere the larger one where desired, using Dimensionals cut down to fit as a strip up the 'belly' and then layer the smaller Butterfly similarly. Add some pears to the smaller Butterfly and you're done.
This is a great technique to showcase and you can add lots of texture to show many different products.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and pop back again soon.
If you'd like to order any of the products featured, please go to my online order trolley (top right) or contact me.
